4th of July, Day 1

Travelling on the fourth was surprisingly easy.  There was little traffic and next to none delays.  Travelling with 4 kids...eh, not so easy.

Malone, who up until this past year was a stellar traveller, went from tears to whining to giggles and back to tears and whining again.  The booster seat was uncomfortable, her stomach hurt, she was hungry, she needed to go pee, big sister was staring at her...you name it, it was a problem for her.  The crowning touch was having to stop on the side of the interstate in West Virginia so that she could do #2 in the travel potty.  I'm so glad that we brought the potty along.

We made it to our first stop in a little over 12 hours.  One of the "exciting" things we saw on the way was the Oscar Mayer weinermobile.  Pat snapped a couple of quick pics as we rolled by...

Malone and B-saurus repeatedly asked if the mountains we were seeing were the Rocky Mountains.  The rolling Appalachian Mountains we drove through are nothing like what they'll be experiencing in a few days.

After arriving at our hotel, the kids went swimming for about a 1/2 hour.  At dinner, we discovered Malone and Pat had a new talent...

Then it was back up to our room where we had a panoramic view of fireworks out the window.

Happy 4th of July!

Love the pic of Malone. That'll be one to show when she has her own.

Hi everyone! Here in Idaho, we're going to be following your journey, so don't forget to post lots. We're getting the great state of Idaho ready for an infestation of Meinens! Kids - get your food requests in now.

Looks like sunny weather in Idaho next week... we have some ideas for river, lake, and hot springs fun in the mountains once you get here.
